The Building, Building Crafts and Metal Constructions Syndicate is a union for all employees working in the field of construction: elevator manufacturers, tilers, carpenters, electricians, marble workers, carpenters, masons, formers, roofers, scrap metal workers, installers, ceiling layers, facade workers, painters, concrete manufacturers, employees of the technical and administrative departments of various companies and apprentices.
With hundreds of staff delegates elected in 2019 (including 250 titular delegates), most of whom are employed in the main building and civil engineering and building crafts companies, the OGBL is the majority union and spokesperson for this sector.
As a result, the OGBL negotiates the collective bargaining agreements for all employees in building constructionand building crafts trades.
The organization of our syndicate
At the head of the Building, Building Crafts and Metal Constructions Syndicate acts the Syndicate Leadership, composed of 35 members who are elected every 4 years during the statutory Syndicate Day.
The Syndicate Leadership is composed of the staff delegates elected under the label OGBL and the trusted persons of our syndicate.
In order to better support the challenges of the employees of the building craft, our syndicate has organized branch of activity committees, bringing together separately the staff delegates and other employees who are members of the OGBL from the sectors of elevator manufacturers, tilers, roofers, electricians and sanitary installers.
International collaboration
In the face of major international challenges, particularly social dumping and the posting of workers in Europe, the OGBL also relies on constructive collaboration with other trade unions united in a politically independent and democratic trade union confederation. In this context, in order to optimally defend the specific interests of the members of the OGBL’s Building, Building Crafts and Metal Constructions Syndicate, we are affiliated to the European Federation of Building and Woodworkers – EFBWW and the Building and Wood Worker’s International – BWI .
The OGBL has always maintained good relations with foreign trade unions and in particular with the trade unions bordering Luxembourg and the trade unions of other countries of origin of employees in the building sector:
DGB et IG Bau in Germany, FGTB in Belgium, CGT, CFDT et Force Ouvrière in France, CGTP-IN et UGT in Portugal.
